David Karabec graduated from the Faculty of Law of Charles University in Prague in 1988, where he also obtained a doctorate in law in 1989. From the beginning of 1990, he was involved in advising start-up entrepreneurs, and in 1993 he became a commercial lawyer. He has been working as a lawyer since 1996. In 1999, he completed a three-month internship in the Federal Republic of Germany for lawyers in Central and Eastern Europe, focusing on the application of German law and European Union law. In 1999, he completed a two-year specialization in intellectual property rights at the Institute of Industrial Law Education at the Industrial Property Office in Prague. In 2002, he took part in a study trip to the Commercial Court in Vienna and the International Court of Arbitration in Vienna as part of the ČAK educational program. In 2003, he completed a one-week study program in France at the European Court of Human Rights and at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, focusing on the court's decision-making practice and the enforcement of its decisions. In 2003, he took part in a study trip to the Federal Administrative Court in Leipzig, focusing on European law in relation to administrative justice. From 2004 to 2012, he worked as an assistant professor at the Department of Law of the Banking Institute of the University (BIVŠ) in Prague, where he specialized in industrial rights and licenses. From 2005 to 2017 he was a member of the Netherlands Chamber of Commerce in Prague. He has been actively cooperating with the Czech Bar Association since 1999, where he worked in the section on EU law, international law and international relations in 1999-2008, while in 2005-2006 he worked as an expert of the Czech Bar Association in the CCBE Competition Law Commission in Brussels. In 2018, he became a member of the Intellectual Property Section of the Czech Bar Association. In 2019, he completed a two-year specialization in Master of Public Administration in Research, Development and Innovation (MPA VVI), where he obtained an MPA management degree. In 2021, he successfully completed postgraduate studies (LL.M.) in alternative dispute resolution (out-of-court dispute resolution, mediation, arbitration) in the field of intellectual property protection. Since 2020, he has been a member of the Department of Economics and Management at Vysoké práva finanční a správní, as (VŠFS), where he focuses on intellectual property law. In his professional law practice, he focuses on industrial and copyright, licensing, protection of know-how and trade secrets, unfair competition, as well as procedural representation of clients in these areas of law. In 2017, he founded the specialized consulting, advisory and educational company JUDr. David KARABEC, sro, which focuses on consulting, advisory, educational and publishing activities in the field of copyright and industrial property protection, licenses, protection of know-how and trade secrets, unfair competition and franchising. The company operates its own Training and Mediation Center in the field of intellectual property protection and is the founder of the IP Mediation Center in Prague, a registered institute. JUDr. David Karabec, MPA is married and has four daughters. In his spare time, he and his family enjoy mountain hiking, skiing and golf.
